MERGING GAMES
WITH AI
A portal gun in Mario. A Minecraft player in Skyrim. The interesting part is the new way to play. The important part is whether you can actually run it.
What does “merging games” mean?
There is no single method. A mashup might borrow one game’s mechanics, rebuild a world in another engine, or run a small game inside a larger one. A video alone cannot tell you which approach was used or whether the result is available.
- A mechanic crossover: Mari0 combines Mario-style platforming with Portal-style puzzles in a standalone fan game.
- A game inside a game: NucleDoom runs classic DOOM in Minecraft.
- A remake in another engine: Skywind rebuilds Morrowind in Skyrim: Special Edition and is still in development.
Where AI fits
AI coding tools can help write mod code, connect APIs and debug a prototype. They still need a workable engine or modding interface, clear requirements and testing. “Merge these two games” does not by itself prove that there is a compatible, legal or playable build.
Melty’s publisher site describes a workflow where a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex uses its instructions to build and publish mashups. It also presents SkyCraft. We have reviewed that publisher description; we have not tested its launcher, publishing workflow or individual mashup releases.
How to merge games with AI: a starting workflow
A small prototype is a useful first step. These steps help you plan one; they are not a tested installation tutorial for every pair of games.
- Choose one mechanic. Define a small result: for example, moving an original block character through paired portals in a test level.
- Choose a supported environment. Start with your own project or a game with documented modding tools. Check what its API allows before asking a coding agent to implement it.
- Use assets you may use. Code, game data, models, music and trademarks can have different permissions. Owning a game does not establish permission to redistribute its files.
- Build a small playable slice. Ask the agent for one movement loop or puzzle, then test it in the actual target environment. Keep a backed-up or isolated project.
- Package the real result. Include supported versions, dependencies, controls, installation steps and known limitations. A reproducible release is more useful to players than an impressive clip.
Before downloading a viral mashup
- Find the original creator, not a reposted clip or an unrelated download mirror.
- Check for a specific release and supported game versions.
- Confirm which games you need to own and which dependencies you must install.
- Read the install and uninstall instructions; back up saves before changing a game.
- Separate creator claims from recorded gameplay tests. Our status labels tell you what we have actually checked.
How do I merge games with Claude?
Claude is a coding assistant in this workflow. Melty’s creator instructions describe giving Claude Code or Codex a mashup brief. Start with a specific mechanic and supported games, then review the generated code and test the result. We have not run this workflow ourselves; check Melty’s current instructions before using it.
Are AI game mashups real games or generated videos?
A clip alone does not settle that question. Look for a creator release, installation requirements and evidence of gameplay. The collection includes author download listings and publisher showcases, with their availability marked separately. An AI-made video is not proof of a downloadable game.
Can I merge any two games?
There is no demonstrated universal workflow in this directory. Different engines, closed systems, versions and asset permissions create different limits. Treat a broad tool claim as something to test with a specific pair of games.
Can I play these in my browser?
None of the current entries has a browser-play path confirmed by us. They point to desktop projects, Minecraft mods or publisher showcases.
Which mashups have author downloads?
Mari0, NucleDoom and Balatro in Minecraft have creator release listings. We have not installed or played them, so they are not labeled “verified playable.”
